About Monsaraz
The walled village of Monsaraz is located atop a hill overlooking the Guadiana River and the modern Spanish border. Archaeological evidence indicates that the village has been fortified, in some form, since prehistory – understandable given its important location. The picturesque town boasts historic monuments, traditional homes, restaurants, and a few shops. Particularly notable is the Castle of Monsaraz, built by the Portuguese King Dinis in the 14th century. Monsaraz provides a beautiful setting for photos. |
